 A Prosperous Soul

A PROSPEROUS SOUL

Pastor Carolyn Sissom

In 1945, Oral Roberts opened his bible to 3 John 2.  Faith entered him and the Word of God became the power of Faith in his life.

Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.

In 1945, I was five years old.  In my journey of life, I was not taught that the LORD cared about my financial prosperity only that I be a good person.  It was in the 1970’s that this truth of 3 John became Faith to me.  This truth deliver by Oral Roberts became a “move of God” delivering most Christians from a spirit of poverty; and wearing a spirit of poverty as a badge of honor.   Christians were delivered into prosperity, the knowing, the faith and the realization that as we follow the LORD, and sow into His Kingdom, we will inherit the blessed promises of the Bible.

Also the faith that we are to live in health; and this too, is joyously provided to us through the wondrous grace of the Cross.

What does it mean to have a prosperous soul?

  1. Live in peace with God, yourself and others.

  2. Love freely without pain, repressed anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, holding grudges, feeling a victim, etc.  Basically not permitting others to inject their negative feelings into us.

  3. Do not try to control others.

  4. Not allowing others to control you unless it is consensual.

  5. We get our emotional needs met in healthy ways.

  6. People are not against me; and if they are, it doesn’t affect me.

  7. We don’t get in power struggles (mental or verbal) with people.

  8. We are okay in the world under God’s care.

  9. We trust God, his Word, His Way, And His Purpose.

  10. We feel like we belong.

  11. We are happy, content, at peace, in joy of life; and rest in our righteousness in Christ.

  12. People or devils do not have power over us to steal our happiness, peace, joy, trust, and right standing with God.

In 3 John, the Apostle is writing to his friend, Gaius, who was a convert of John.  Church tradition states that he was one of the seventy whom Jesus sent out and was later ordained by John as the bishop of Pergamum.

St. John is commending Gaius of his faithfulness to the truth.

3 John 3-4: I was filled with joy and delight when the brothers arrived and informed me of your faithfulness to the truth.  They told me how you live continually in the truth of Christ.  It is the greatest joy of my life to hear that my children are consistently living their lives in the way of truth.

John throughout his writings as well as the Apostle Paul speak often of the truth.

What is the truth?

John 8:32:  You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 16:13: Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth; for he shall not speak of himself; for whatsoever he shall hear; that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come.

John 17:17:  Sanctify them through your truth; your word is truth.

This message today is to reveal keys that heal the soul that  people may push into the realm of a prosperous soul.

The Lord wants His Church to prosper in every way, enjoying good health, with a happy, peaceful soul.

When the soul is troubled, we feel desperate, fearful,  oversensitive, anxious, rejected, angry, confused, abandoned, exhausted, invisible, controlled, used, manipulated, empty, loneliness, complaining and loss of identify.  These are among the living dead.

When our soul is prosperous we have the Life of Christ flowing through us.  We are living in the Glory of God (his nature).  We feel whole, joyful, competent, interested, strong, comfortable, peaceful, fulfilled, grateful, happy, excited, trusting, alone-ness, togetherness, hopeful, faith and faithful, loving, righteous, contentment, wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

Pseudo Christianity – slaps band aids on an open wound.  These are rigid, legalistic, condemning, bossy, demanding, religious without mercy, controlling, not experiencing life, liberty, happiness, joy, peace and righteousness.  These are the white washed tombs.

The Lord has and is extending his love without condemnation to set the church free to joy, peace and righteousness in the Holy Ghost.  He is living and breathing the life of Christ in the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in Heaven.

Beloved I pray that you are prospering in every way and that you continually enjoy good health, just as your soul is prospering.

Learn to laugh.  Don’t take yourself so seriously or anyone else for that matter.  Often the Holy Spirit of laughter will break forth in our Spirits and it is a great release.  As we learn to bring more humor into our lives and learn to laugh more, depression and despair will have no power over us.

Laughter relaxes us as almost nothing else.  Many individuals improve as soon as they learn no one is perfect (not even themselves).  Begin to laugh at your own imperfections and perfectionist demands.  Pent-up anger is the root cause of the vast majority of depressions.

Faith in Jesus Christ and the principles of God’s Word— living, moving and having our being in the truth of the Kingdom of God is the solution.

In 3 John, the apostle continues to Gaius, I commend you for your demonstration of faithful love by all that you have done for the brothers on their journey, even though they were strangers at the time.

Here John is speaking of the hospitality by Gaius to these traveling missionaries.  There are times, I have to give my soul an attitude adjustment because of our known hospitality to traveling ministers in this small congregation of believers.  John writes, Now if you would be so kind, send them on their way with a generous gift, in a manner that would honor God.  You see, it was their passion for the glory of the name of Christ that launched them out, and they’ve not accepted financial support from unbelievers.  They are deserving of all the support we can give the, because through our giving we can partner with them for the truth.

I do not believe these verses on generosity to traveling missionaries and itinerant speakers is separate from the blessing of  I pray you prosper in every way and that you continually enjoy good health, just as your soul prospers.

I believe Eastgate Church congregation is well spoken of in Heaven because of the generous soul of this church.

Prov. 11:25:  The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.

Prov. 22:9: He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.

Isa. 32:8: A generous man devises generous things, and by generosity he shall stand.

Our financial obligations are prepared for beforehand, that our giving may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a grudging obligation.  (2 Cor. 9:5).

Satan and his minions are intent on destroying our soul through sorrows, tribulations, distress, sickness, and losses.  Ps. 63:9 reads those who seek to destroy our soul will go into the lower parts of the earth.

Yes, there are mean spirited people with wrong motives who Satan is able to use for his purpose of destroying our soul.  We know the Law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

When we are armed with this knowledge and understanding, we will not allow Satan to penetrate our mind, will and emotions.  We will not come into agreement with Satan when he attacks our soul.

Satan tries to use unconscious motives that invariably revolve around the emotion of anger—repressed anger—holding grudges against self, others, or God.

When this happens, Satan has you.  You have come into agreement with Satan and allowed him to inject into you offense.   Our brains are very much like complex computers.  Whatever behavior or thinking patters which are programmed into us, people often choose to continue those behavior patterns.

Ps. 63:5:  My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips.

A prosperous soul is a joyful soul.  A prosperous soul delights in the goodness of the LORD and the beauty of His creation.  A prosperous soul delights in the salvation of God’s  people.  A prosperous soul delights in others’ happiness, blessings and well being.  A prosperous soul will even delight in the prosperity of their enemies.  A prosperous soul is not a painful soul.

Psa. 103:1:  Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

A prosperous soul delights in beauty and partners with the Creator to create beauty.  A prosperous soul is creative

Prov. 16:24: Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

About Carolyn:

In 1990, the call came to start a church.  We officially incorporated.  In retrospect, I now know that we were chosen to be a part of the ushering in of the Third Day Glory Church.  At the time, I was preaching by vision and Spirit of Revelation.  As in every move of God, we came under heavy persecutions.  However, the Lord was more than faithful.  He raised up dear Pastors, Prophets and Ministries to stand with us.  Those great warriors continue to be a part of the Eldership of this ministry.

We had incredible visitations and mighty outpourings of the Glory of God in our meetings.  Hindsight now reveals that without the persecution, we would never have dug in.  Also, we had to be tested by persecution in order to overcome and be proven to produce fruit 30-60-100 fold.

In 1997, my husband’s company moved us to Houston, After a much needed rest and time to reflect on what had transpired in those 7-years in Baton Rouge, the Lord again directed me to start a new work here in Houston.

This came in along with the Golden Glory Revival.  The Lord did not tell me that I would be a conduit of the Golden Glory, but that I was to prophesy it.  I was preparing to teach on Gift of Miracles at a community Bible Study.   Our friends, Barney and Joann Fuller, mailed me the book by Ruth Ward Heflin, Golden Glory.  I read the book on a flight to Los Angeles.  That night I awoke, sitting straight up in my bed.  The room was filled with golden angels.  They were all singing the song recorded by Candy Christmas, GLORY, GLORY, GLORY, THAT’S MY STORY.”

Prior to this visitation, the Lord spoke to me around November 2000, that wherever I went, I was to declare the Glory of God.

It seems that no matter where I preach in the Bible, I end up with only one message, the declaration of the Glory of God:   Feast of Tabernacles, The Holy of Holies, the Mountain of the Last Days,The Overcomer, The Sons of God, The Kingdom of God,  The Joseph Company, The Bride of Christ, The 144,000, The Remnant, Those who pass under the Rod, The Branch of the Lord, Those who follow the Lamb wherever He goes, Mt. Zion, New Jerusalem, etc. etc.  All of this plus more tell only one story, “GLORY GLORY GLORY.

We are an apostolic ministry as well as prophetic.  Our desire is to reveal Jesus Christ in the fulness of  the Majesty of His Great power and Glory

Ephesians 4:13

“Until we all come in the unity of the faith, of the knowledge of the son of GOD, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of CHRIST.
